Obviously powered by diesel engine and definitely built for the tourist trade, this pirate ship still made quite a sight chugging up the Esk...
...sweeping round in front of the lifeboat and pulling up at the pier.
Though the sailor on lookout seemed less than impressed!
I wondered if this was a tour boat but didn't pay close enough attention to the detail to realize it's a pirate tour boat! I'll bet that makes for one fun tour. Do you know if they tell tall tales (or true stories) about the pirates that marauded the high seas? That teddy pirate is a nice touch. I'll bet the kids (of all ages) loved it!
ReplyDeleteIn spite of the pirate theme employed, I think this boat is actually intended to be a replica of the Endeavour, the ship in which Cook made his voyages of exploration. I expect they thought pirates would be more appealing to children! I don't know whether they tell tall tales of the cut-throats of the waves, but they do learn sea shanties :)
DeleteAha, I've only seen this boat at night, so I didn't realise it's a modern tourist boat with a diesel engine! We're going to Whitby at the weekend so I'll take another look :-)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy :)
DeleteI took the same photos - I just knew that my little grandsons would love to see this pirate boat and the Teddy pirate!
ReplyDeleteThe teddy is definitely the icing on the cake!
DeleteWhat fun photos and the teddy pirate looks perfect.
ReplyDeletecheers, parsnip
It is rather fun :)
DeleteWe had a good look around a ship called the Grand Turk at Whitby some years ago. I don't think it's this one, and it very definately stayed tied up to the side.
ReplyDeleteAccording to this...
Deletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Turk_(frigate)
The Grand Turk was moored in Whitby for more than a decade before being removed to France.
Love Whitby - its an amazing little place x
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy making a visit :)
DeleteI like it. What is the Oragne boat in the background?
ReplyDeleteHi Timothy, The orange boat in the background is the RNLI lifeboat http://www.whitbylifeboat.org.uk/
