The old Cockermouth to Penrith railway line forms part of the Coast to Coast Cycle Path. This is just one of one thousand mileposts erected by the Royal Bank of Scotland to mark the creation of the National Cycle network, part of the Millennium Project.
It showed from whence we had come...
...but we are most definitely not walking as far as Sunderland!!
It also had a hole. I can't resist holes.

ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting mile post. I enlarged as much as I could and wished to have seen more of the carvings....but was happy to see that you'd taken a few detailed shots too.
ReplyDeleteOne is almost tempted to be grumpy and Daily-Mailish and say things like "ah, that is where all that money soaked up by the banks went to". But these posts are wonderfully decorative, inventive and useful. In a world of excess, it was money well spend.
