Sunset over Alport Heights

Mark was home for a couple of days in early May. We went out to do some stuff and found ourselves fairly close to Alport Heights, so he asked if we could drive up and take a look at the gritstone pillar he had climbed when he was about 15. He wanted to see just how idiotic he really had been.

His final verdict was that it was a semi-idiotic thing to have done; but pretty 'ballsy'.

This time, I wasn't worried at all!

And we hung around to watch a rather glorious sunset!

(Enough chit-chat. I'll leave you in peace to enjoy it too!)

Ahhhhh.

Happy Birthday Ben :)

Skywatch Friday - It should have been fine

I've been thinking that it's about time I posted some more blogs about Derby. Anyone reading would think that I didn't really live here!

Unfortunately, I need a new wander with my camera, which means a sunny day co-inciding with some free time. Last Tuesday was beautifully sunny, a perfect day for taking photos. Was I free - No! So, Wednesday morning, I was all primed to be in the city centre first thing, taking advantage of this spell of dry weather. I woke up, pulled back the curtains and... DRIZZLE!!!

I'm afraid the Derby posts will have to wait a little longer.

The puzzle though, is this...

This was Tuesday's sunset, but Wednesday rained! What happened to 'Red sky at night...'?

According to the shepherds, it should have been fine!

This week, I'm linking to Skywatch Friday; skies from around the planet!

Yet another sunset

We had another glorious sunset here the other night. At the moment, we seem to enjoying lots of fiery skies; sometimes in the morning and sometimes at night.

But it's reached the stage of the year where I am consistently having to begin each day in the dark. It seems so much more of a chore to get out of bed when it's not yet daylight!

Post Script:
However, watching the Chilean miners being brought to the surface one by one, I am grateful for daylight at any time of the day!

Stages of a sunset

I watched this amazing sunset from the top of Baildon Moor. The whole sequence took over an hour.
Enjoy!    ... I did!  :)

Orange skies

As I walked up the garden on Monday evening, I could see signs of a stunning sunset peeping round from the street side of the house. As a result, I grabbed my camera and dared to venture into the upstairs level four hazard zone (genarally known as a youth bedroom) to hang out of the window and take a few photos.

Beautiful :)

Reflecting

We have had a whole series of colourful sunsets here over the past week. I thought I would try hanging out of the bedroom window to see if I could capture a reflection. I'm not entirely sure that I like the result, but it is slightly out of the ordinary.

Interesting to note that, until about eleven days ago, I couldn't see these houses because of a large ash tree in my next-door-but-one neighbour's garden. How much can be 'achieved' by two men and a chain saw!
