Canary Wharf by night

I love the steam venting from the pyramid.

  1. I love night-time scenes! And these are beautiful, especially the first of the trio. Night-time changes everything, blots out all the harshness and grimness that daylight highlights, softening all the edges and adding a touch of magic to what, in daylight, is often quite a stark and uninteresting scene.

  4. I'm sorry H, but I can never see that pyramid [nor the one in Stockport] without thinking of "Stargate" - especially the TV series...

... and your beautifully atmospheric shots of it with the base glowing so brightly don't do anything dispel the thought =D

Amazing architecture, far better than the acres of soul-less concrete of the 1960s & 1970s; but, for me, still not a patch on the "form and function" that the Victorian and Edwardian eras seemed to produce in their municipal and public buildings.

I've not often visited London but I do know that the London Head Office of Barclays Bank is in an adjacent tower. Within that particular building are some atria, which span (I think) about 5 floors and contain informal meeting areas, coffee bars and, amazingly, living trees. The surrounding offices and meeting rooms can see down and into these voids ... and they are not at ground level so you get fabulous views out over the surroundings through the glass walls...

Clever but not user-friendly if, like me, you hate heights :(
