Determination
Vigilance
War
Peace
At the four corners of Victoria Square lie four lions. Two guard the corners of the Shipley College building, while the other two guard the corners of Victoria Hall.
Carved from sandstone by Thomas Milnes of London, the lions are named Determination and Vigilance, War and Peace.
Love Saltairs - not so very far from here and a lovely place to go for a day out.
ReplyDeleteOh, I remember when Jenny featured these ;)
ReplyDeleteby happy coincidence it is
ReplyDelete"Determination" & "Vigilance" are outside the old Salt Grammar School (as H says, now part of Shipley College)
and
"War" & "Peace" are outside Victoria Hall, a large part of which used to be the village library (as well as housing the various function rooms and gymnasium reflecting it's original purpose referred to by H)
My preferences are determination and peace... :-)
