A tor around a rock

This is Ilam Rock, about which I have posted once before, so I'm going to be quiet and just allow you to enjoy the photo.

Almost directly across the river is Pickering Tor.

This cave close to the foot of Ilam Rock is one of many in the gorge. Although unpromising from the outside,  the roof rises to make quite a spacious place.

Looking out, you can just spot the end of the wooden footbridge on which I was standing to take the first photo. Also, notice the puddle. The day outside was bright and sunny, but water seeps slowly through limestone and there was a regular drip rippling this wetness.

  1. I love Dovedale. I've never been in the Autumn, must go soon before the leaves all disappear! Great photos.

  3. Hi there, I've just found your blog through your post on Christingles (primary teacher looking for info!!!). We love Ilam Hall and the surrounding area and have stayed there a few times on the caravan site near the hall. It's like the land that time forgot! Also my husband is a rock climber, and frequents climbing walls when he can't get outdoors .... but I can honestly say, i've never been tempted to join in! Congratulations on your win!!!!

  4. With the exception of the Rock Tavern up the road, I am not the greatest fan of rocks - but your photographs are so appealing they tempt me to become a fan.

  5. Is this Thor's cave or is that in a different place?

  6. The photos make me feel like this is a magical place with caves, strange upright rocks and a lovely slow-moving stream.
